drivin'

Ooh goodness!! Stay off the sidewalks the McPhie boys are behind the wheel!!

So Mac decided that he is going to teach the boys how to drive his blue truck. So a week or so ago we took the boys to the top of 5th street on a dirt road and he taught them how to drive. It was pretty funny to watch them. So here are some pictures of how it went!

So Bry was the first one up!  First Mac showed him where his feet needed to go. Where the brakes are, where the clutch is, and the gas is. (it was funny to hear him tell Bry that the gas is not just for pushing it all the way to the floor and see how fast you can get the truck to go. There is more to driving than pushing the gas)

Then it was time to learn how to start the truck. Bry had a little bit of a hard time making sure the clutch was pushed all the way in and then turning the key at the same time. But then he got it!

Then it was time to let the clutch out slowly and the gas in slowly! He did pretty good. He only killed it once and the truck shook for only a minute but then he got the hang of it!

and then they were off!

we brought 1 four wheeler up with us so that one boy could ride the four wheeler while the other one learned how to drive!
So Kode tried out all of the trails around the area until Bry came back!

So Mac let Bry drive for about 5 miles then he had him turn around and make his way back to where Kode and I were!

Here he is! He is so proud of himself!

Then it was Bry's turn to ride the four wheeler while Kode drove!

Next it was Kodes turn to drive! He jumped right in the drivers seat and was ready to fire the truck up and get on his way!

Mac yelling "HELP ME! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME. I AM BEING HELD HOSTAGE"

and then they were off. Kode did a great job of not chugging the truck to much on the take off. Kode was telling me he was able to go fast enough to sift the truck into 4th gear. He says he really likes to drive.

So then a couple of days later we met Mac for dinner and Mac was telling us that he was really tired and just wanted to go home to go to bed. Kode chimed in and said "just a few more times in you teaching me how to drive the truck and I will be able to drive you home with no problem"  Mac and I got a good laugh out of that. We told Kode there is a lot more to driving on the roads with other people then what Mac has taught him the one time! So I guess there will be many more driving adventures to come!

BBQ

So we decided not to go camping over the long weekend. We ended up having a BBQ with some of Mac's co-workers at our house instead. I really enjoy going camping but it was nice to just stay home, hang out and get a few things done around here, and have some people over at our house. All in all we had a great turn out of co-workers and their families.

Mac dug out the horse shoes and all the guys played shoes! It was a huge success!

The food was awesome! One of the co-workers brought 3 tri-tips that they marinated before hand. (we smoked 1 tri-tip and then cooked the 2 others on the BBQr) Then another co-worker brought a ham. Then we had several different salads, homemade salsa, a veggie tray, Mac's jalapeno peppers, and devil eggs. Oooh and don't forget the most important food the dessert. Mac made cherry and peach cobbler in his dutch ovens. They were soooo goood!! No one left our house that night hungry. There was so much food. It was so hard to quit eating!

here were just some of the people that we had at our house on Saturday night!

and here are a few more of them!

Anyway we all had a great time on Saturday night. Great company, AWESOME food, and the weather was very nice.
(Not too hot and not rainy or windy like the night before.)
Anyway we look forward to seeing the co-workers again in December!

the 1st already!!

Its crazy to think that today is September 1st. WOW! Where is time going? Its crazy to say that we have been in school/back to work with students for a week now! CRAZY!!
Well the count down is on! Kode's birthday is only 24 days away. He is so excited. Its not that we are doing anything major for his birthday. I even asked him what he wanted to do and he said "go to dinner at Dos Amigos." So I guess that's what we will be doing! But he is so excited and he wants to count down the days. So we are only 24 more days away!! Happy counting Kode!!
