finally some snow

So we finally got a skiff of snow this morning and the boys were so excited to go out and play in it! They tried to sled in it for a bit then they decided it would be more fun to have a snowball fight in it instead!
So it was Kode and Jakob against Bry and Kris!

Kode used his shovel to throw the snow at Kris and Bry!

and Bry and Kris made themselves a place where they could shelter themselves. The decided that Bry should make the snowballs and Kris should throw them!

and their plan seemed to work well!
They sure had a great time out there playing in the snow!

ShOpPiNg CaRtS

The other day Bry and I went to the grocery store to pick a few things up. When we pulled up to the parking lot we noticed that there were shopping carts everywhere. So we both decided to take a few of them into the store. This way it would help the lady that is always out there taking several carts in at once and it also would prevent the carts from rolling into peoples cars! (It just makes me so mad when I come out from shopping and there are carts all over the place. There are corrals are everywhere throughout the parking lot and people can't park their carts in them) Anyway Bry and I enjoyed helping out a little!

HoMeWoRk

Kode came home with some homework the other night that was a little ridiculous. I don't mind helping him with his homework but what the substitute teacher (yea the substitute teacher) was asking of the kids was a bit ridiculous. (I know that this work didn't come from his regular teacher cause she doesn't believe in homework. (I think its a great idea to have homework for each student so that the remember what was taught in class) Anyway well back to my story. So when Kode came home from school he was very frustrated and said that he had some homework that he really did not want to do but had to do and he really needed my help. So I finished dinner and we sat down together. Much to my surprise I was not able to do much of the homework either. (now I am no genius but as an adult I thought I would be able to help him out more)
So Kode had a map of Nevada and a paper with 31 questions on it that he had to answer. He had to write each question in his note book (I thought that this was a little ridiculous cause all of the questions were already typed on the paper and the info isn't anything that he would be needing to use in his life but he did what the sub told him to do) Then he had to list each answer on another sheet of paper. Anyway here is what some of the questions asked (remember the students were handed a map of Nevada and told that they could find the answers using it)

* How long is the loneliest road in America?
(is this supposed to be in NV?)

* What is the only city in Nevada which is off limits to gambling?
(and we are supposed to find this on the map)

* Which state in America has the most mountain ranges?
(key word AMERICA not just NV)

* What is the name of the longest river in America that never leaves the state?
(from looking at the map of NV I couldn't find it)

* Where is the "Biggest Little City in the World" located?
(never heard of it and how is this going to help Kode be ready for 6th grade)

* In what place was Richard Nixon's wife born in?
(who is Richard Nixon {Just kidding} but most 5th graders aren't going to know this little alone know by looking at the map know where she was born)

* Where is the "Pelican State"?
(well it isn't NV)

* What town in Nevada is known as the number one Star Gazing place in America?
(well my guess was Great Basin National Park {and it was} and I knew this cause we were there a couple of years ago. But most kids don't get the opportunity to go outside of Elko so they would have no idea)

* Nevada has only one of two round courthouses in the nation. In what city were they located in?
(who cares)

Anyway you get the point! The questions were ridiculous! I could not find any answers just by looking at the map so I went and got the computer out and we googled all the questions just so that we could find the answers. Mac even came down and helped us find the answers! This homework took us over and hour to do!
Mac is one smart guy and he had a hard time answering the questions!
So how did this sub figure 5th graders were going to answer the questions!

by the time we were done with the homework we all felt like Kodes face
!
Kode writing down all the questions!
Anyway we all survived his homework for that night! Hopefully this sub will not be assigning any more work like this!

Weekend

The boys and I met with Grams, and Grandpa Roger a couple of weekends ago in Salt Lake to exchange our Christmas gifts with them. It was a very busy weekend. We did lots of shopping, lots of swimming, and ate out at some good places. We also met up with my sister and her boy friend for some dinner at Bucca di Beppo! All in all it was a great weekend.
The boys and I had to do some shopping at The Gateway Mall. So I told them if they were good I would go and get them some cookies and hot chocolate!

After having dinner with Chealsi and her man we said good-bye and the boys and I and Grams and Grandpa Roger loaded the Jingle Bus. Its a FREE bus that takes you through down town to see all the lights. Its heated where you stay warm, they play Christmas music and you get an opportunity to see all the Christmas lights down town and its FREE! You can get off at any of their many stops! We had such a great time on the Jingle Bus!
 Getting on the Jingle Bus!

One of the helpers on the bus let Bry wear a Santa hat!

Bry and Grandpa Roger!

 Grams, Kode and I

The little helper gave Bry his Santa hat! Bry was so happy!

Anyway, all in all we had a great weekend in Salt Lake visiting with family! Thank mom and Roger for everything. We enjoyed spending the weekend with you guys!
