Well our first evening of summer break has started off a little rough. At about 6:00 p.m. I heard a loud crash in the kitchen. I was up in my room folding cloths and loading pictures on the computer to update the blog. So I yelled down to the boys to see if they were OK. Kode yelled up that something just fell but were OK. So I didn't think much of it. A few minutes later Bry came walking up the stirs and told me that he had been bleeding a little. Once I saw his head I just got a little sick to my stomach. He said he felt OK and that he didn't want to go to the doctor. So I cleaned him up a little ( I knew that head wounds are the worst and they bleed a lot even when the cut really isn't bad) Well anyway Mac was at work so I wasn't sure if I should take him to the ER or if he would be OK. So we walked over to the neighbors house and I had her take a look at it. She said if it was her she probably wouldn't take him to the ER. She said it would heal itself in a few days. Goodness I just wasn't sure. So I took a picture of his head on my phone and sent it to Mac. He called right away and said he needs to go to the ER now, and that he is leaving work and he would meet us there!
So this is what the cut looked like after I cleaned it up a little!
So we were off to the Emergency Room.
Bry thought it would be a good memory to get a picture of him next to the emergency room sign
Just after we checked in. Bry has never been to the ER and has never had a wrist band on before so he kept looking at it and looking at it again! Luckily we only waited in the waiting room for a few minutes and then we were taken back to the exam room.
Just after we got into the room.
(Before we left home I told him that he should bring something to play with cause we will probably be at the ER for a while. So he choose to bring his NOOK.) So after we got into the room he got out his NOOK and began playing it. He was very nervous about this hole emergency room thing but having the NOOK helped keep his mind off of everything. He didn't want to be by him self. He didn't want a shot, and he didn't want anything to hurt his head.
Mac came from work as fast as he could. He wanted to be there to make sure everything was OK with Bry. Bry wanted to show him his wrist band. He thought that the wrist band was pretty cool!
So the cut was pretty deep. Deeper then the doctor initially thought. They ended up putting stitches in on the scalp of his head and then 4 staples on the top to close up the cut. Bry said that it never hurt, and that is what he was most afraid of. The nurse and doctor were great! They talked Bry through every step of the way and they were very polite to all of our concerns. This trip to the ER was not as bad as some of the trips that we have had. But it sure is not a place I would like to visit very often. Mac said it was a good thing that we took him in cause the cut was a little deeper than we could see and it really needed some attention! That is why we have insurance I guess!
So after we got him all stitched/stapled up we were on or way. He walked out of the ER feeling much better.
So he was playing with the string of little chickens that hang from this metal tool that fell off of the shelf that is above our sliding glass door. We are so lucky that it didn't give him a concussion or something worse. (needless to say the tool will be moved away from that spot immediately)
They put this patch on him. Poor kid it takes up the hole side of his head.
So after being through all of that I sure was not up for coming home and making any dinner so we ordered some pizza. I was glad to see that he was eating a little. He says he feels good and his head doesn't hurt. I guess he's just keeping up with his dad on gouging their heads. I am so thankful that things are so good. It could have been so much worse! He's a tough little guy!
